The role of genetics in lipid metabolism is most evident in monogenic disorders, such as familial hypercholesterolemia and familial combined hyperlipidemia. D-Fructose-1-phosphate also appears to be converted to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate by the enzyme. The enzyme prefers alpha-D-glucose 1-phosphate and D-allose 1-phosphate to the corresponding beta-anomers. The other phosphorylated and nonphosphorylated monosaccharides are not a substrate for the enzyme. The enzyme is specific for the D-fructose 1-phosphate form of fructose.
