Korean Honor Scholarship (KHS) 2025 Announced

 - 86  KHS recipients will be selected in 2025

 

    The Korean Honor Scholarship Committee extends an invitation to Korean and Korean-American undergraduate and graduate students to compete for the year 2025 Korean Honor Scholarship.

    The Scholarship was first established in 1981 with the gift fund of one million US dollars donated by the government of the Republic of Korea to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between Korea and the U. S. A. Now the total amount of fund is 2.90 million US dollars. The scholarship is awarded to encourage outstanding students who have Korean heritage to achieve their highest academic performance and develop leadership qualities for their future professional careers in the global society.

     The Korean Honor Scholarship Committee has awarded 3,388 scholarships to outstanding Korean and Korean-American students over the past 42 years.  To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be attending college or university at least both 2024 fall and 2025 spring semesters in the U. S. A. and must have an overall grade average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 basis. In addition to the academic achievement, a personal Statement, a letter of recommendation, awards, honors, performances and extracurricular activities are reviewed for selection. Approximately 86 scholarships* in the U.S. and 7 scholarships in Canada will be awarded in the U. S. this year. Scholarship will be awarded once in undergraduate and graduate level respectively.)

The following dates are important for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in applying the Korean Honor Scholarship in the U.S.

  - Application period: April 21 ~ June 20, 2025 ( Arrival by June 20)
  - First round evaluation at regional consular offices: June 23 ~ July 2, 2025
  - Final round evaluation by Central Selection Committee: July 24
  - Scholarship Award presentation: After September 30

 

 The amount of scholarships is as follows: 

  - Best Honor Scholarship: $ 5,000 (2 students) 
  - Excellent Honor Scholarship - $ 3,000 (4 students)
  - Honor Scholarship: $1,500 

  

* Applications also must be submitted to the regional consular office CLOSEST TO his or her HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION. 

* Applications for the scholarship in Arts, Adoptee and Special must be directly submitted to the Office of Education Minister Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Washington, D.C. The KHS Committee asks the applicants who need further information or inquiry to contact the Office of Education Minister Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Washington, D.C.(202-939-5679~5681) or one of the regional Consular Offices closest to their college or university.

<주미대사관, 2025년도 재미한인장학기금 장학생 선발>

 

총 86명 내외 선발(1인당 $1,500), 최우수 장학생(2명, 각 $5,000), 우수장학생 (4명, 각$3,000)선발예정

미국 대통령 장학생 선정 한인고교생 특별장학생 선발, 장학금 수여

 

1.  대한민국 정부가 지원하고 주미대사관이 운영하는 재미한인장학기금(The Korean Honor Scholarship)의 2025년도 장학생 선발계획이 확정 발표되었습니다.  금년도 선발인원은 지난해 80명에서 비해 86명 수준(캐나다 별도 선발인원 7명 포함)으로 확대될 예정입니다.

2.  먼저 미국 내 대학(원)에 재학하고 있는 동포학생과 한국유학생을 대상으로 일반장학생 61명 내외, 음악․미술의 예능계 장학생 2명 내외, 입양한인 학생 및 장애학생 6명 등으로 구분하여 선발*하고 선발된 장학생들에게는 1인당 1,500불을 지원할 예정입니다. 특히, 우수학생들의 적극적 지원을 유도하기 위하여 대학(원)생 장학생 중 최우수 장학생(2명) 및 우수 장학생(4명)을 선정하여 최우수 장학생에게는 1인당 5,000불, 우수장학생에게는 1인당 3,000불을 지급할 예정입니다. 
  *분야별 지원인원 및 심사성적에 따라 선발인원을 심사위원회에서 일부 조정가능 
한편 캐나다 지역의 경우 별도로 7명을 선발하게 되며 주토론토 총영사관(한국교육원)에서 공고․심사․선발․장학금($1,500) 수여 등을 진행할 예정입니다.
또한, 재미동포학생의 미래인재 육성이라는 장학금 취지를 고려하여 한국계고등학생 중 미국 대통령장학생으로 선정된 학생들에게는 전원 특별장학금 1000불을 수여합니다.

3.  재미한인장학기금 대학(원)생 장학생 신청 자격은 기본적으로 미국 대학 정규 학사학위 이상 과정에 재학중인 한국계 대학생 또는 대학원생〔부모중 한 분이 한국계인 동포학생, 미국이나 캐나다에 입양된 동포학생, 한국인 유학생 포함〕으로서 직전 1년간 GPA 3.0 이상인 학생은 전공에 관계없이 누구나 지원할 수 있으며 학부에서 장학금을 받은 대학원생도 다시 장학금을 신청할 수 있습니다. (P/F 등 다른방식 성적표는 관계없음) 이와 관련하여 신청자들은 반드시 최근 1년('24년 가을학기 및 '25년 봄학기*)의 대학(원) 성적(GPA)을 제출하여야 합니다. 장학생 선발을 위한 심사는 GPA(40점), 추천서(15점),자기소개서(20점), 이력서(25점, 논문발표, 입상실적,  Leadership 등) 등을 종합적으로 검토할 예정이며, 재미한인장학기금의 취지에 따라 미국 등 외국의 중고등학교 과정을 이수한 동포학생을 대상으로 요건에 맞는 경우 한국어 가산점을 부여합니다.

    * '25년 봄학기 성적제출이 어려운 특별한 사정을 소명한 경우에는 2024년 봄학기 성적을 제출할 수 있습니다.

4. 금년도 선발 주요 일정은 각 총영사관별 원서교부 및 접수(4.21~ 6.20), 각 총영사관 지역심사(6.23~7.2), 대사관 중앙심사(7.24) 및 장학금 지급(9. 30 이후)의 순서로 진행될 예정입니다. 신청서는 일반 장학생의 경우 대학 소재지 관할 총영사관에, 예능계 및 입양/특별 장학생의 경우 주미대사관(교육관실)로 제출하여야 합니다.
