I extend my warmest greetings for visiting Korean Education Center in Chicago. Korean Education Center is an overseas branch office of the Korean Ministry of Education. The center was established by the governmental act on the educational support for overseas Koreans and international educational cooperation. Since the foundation in 1981, Korean Education Center in Chicago has been supporting approximately 120 Korean Community schools to promote education in Korean language, history and the culture in the thirteen Midwestern states. Our passion lies in educating our future generations, in order that their identity as Koreans functions as an important part in the global society.
We also proudly support establishing and operating Korean classes in American elementary and secondary schools. Currently, about 17 Midwestern schools offer Korean programs in partnership with Korean Education Center in Chicago. Likewise, for younger adults and professionals, Korean language and culture programs are provided directly by the center in three locations in Chicagoland.
Besides, in order to take part in globalization of education, we also coordinate various government scholarship programs. Advanced degree support scholarship program (GKS), English teaching program (TaLK, EPIK), and Korean proficiency exam (TOPIK) are operated by the center. Korean Education Center in Chicago will exert its utmost effort to promote overseas education and global educational cooperation. We look forward to welcoming you on the journey of discovering Korea.
