Korean Language Course
* All classes are open to anyone aged 16 and up

General Infomation

Semester Structure

  • Winter: TOPIK preparation class only (*no beginner's class)

  • Spring: Regular semester

  • Summer: Conversational classes (*no beginner's class)

  • Fall: Regular semester

  • Winter: early January - early February (5 weeks)

  • Spring: mid-February - late May (15 weeks)

  • Summer: late June - late July (6 weeks)

  • Fall: mid-August - late November (15 weeks)

Registration Schedule

  • Winter: First Tuesday of December 

  • Spring: Second Tuesday of January

  • Summer: Last Tuesday of May

  • Fall: Second Tuesday of July

Registration Fee

  • Spring/Fall Active Korean courses: $70

  • Spring/Fall Certificate courses: $140

  • Summer/Winter: $35

Cancellation Policy

  • Full Refund: If cancellation is requested one week before the first session

  • 50% Refund: If cancellation is requested before the second session

  • No Refund: After the second session

Certificate Korean Course

Levels / Schedule

  • 2 Levels:

    Certificate Korean 1, and 2

 

  • Class meets twice a week

     (30 times per semester)

Requirement

  • Certificate Korean 1 is for beginners learning Korean for the first time 

         * No prior knowledge required.

  • Certificate Korean 2 is for people completed Certificate Korean 1 (or who finished our Active Korean classes for more than two semesters)

Textbook 

  • Electronic textbook provided (Access to the e-textbook site will be sent to the students)

Certificates

  • 70% attendance & pass on an evaluation exam needed for a certificate from the Korean Government

  • Completion of Certificate Korean 2 is considered equivalent to a TOPIK Level 1 certificate in Korea 

  • Completion of Certificate Korean 2 meet the language proficiency requirements for visa issuance by the Korean Ministry of Justice (for overseas Koreans, marriage immigrants, etc.)

  • 8 Levels:

   Active Korean 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 3A, 4B

 

  • Class meets once a week

     (15 times per semester)

Tips for choosing a level

& Self-Placement test

  • Active Korean 1A is beginners learning Korean for the first time. 

        * No prior knowledge required.

  • Students (except 1A) must take the Self-placement test before sign-up. 

  • Level Adjustment may be suggested by the teacher before the second session

       * level changes are NOT guaranteed.

         Registration fee will be refunded if an               alternative class is now available

    *Workbook is optional, but recommend

Completion

  • 80% attendance needed for a certificate of completion from the Korean Education Center in Chicago
